Kashmir Ruby and Swat Emerald
The rest of the world now became familiar with the unusually high optical properties and density gems of Pakistan in last few years owing to the efforts of Center of Pakistan and International Relations (COPAIR) among other stakeholders in institutionalizing the gemstone industry of Pakistan. The industry is in infancy as the rare commodity is contributing merely 1percent to the national product; however, the country have large reserviors of Emerald in Swat and Ruby in the Kashmir region. Center of Pakistan and International Relations (COPAIR) aims to promote the commercial potential of Swat Valley Emeralds and the Ruby of Kashmir, and seeks to gather support from all stakeholders of the industry to furnish the policy recommendations for the mining and marketing of this rare national commodity and increasing the export base of the gemstone from Pakistan. COPAIR also intends to host gems and minerals trade shows, open display centers for traders, check irrational taxes and promote ease of doing business in the industry.
Gems and Jewelery Expo 2019
Ms. Amna Malik was awarded for her policy advocacy efforts on value-addition for enhancing Gemstone trade 2nd RCCI Gems and Jewelry Exibition organized by at Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI). Ms Firdous Ashiq Awan, Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting presented the award to Ms Amna Malik and commended the efforts of her organizaiton in the promotion of the industry as a trade amplifies for Pakistan. The event was inaugrated by the Ambassador of Italy to Pakistan Stefano Pontecorvo and several eminent diplomats, memebers of the business community and corporate sector from the twin cities also attended the event. The event received an overwhelming response from local and foreign visitors as the event had showcased Pakistan’s hidden potential in gems and stones and attracted foreign investments in the country.
